To maintain healthy hair you have to wash it on a regular basis. This doesn’t mean washing you hair every day. You do not want to dry out your hair or scalp. It is very important to “open up” the cutical layer of each hair (which is what cleansing does) so the cutical layer can properly absorb conditioning and styling products. I recommend using a really good shampoo. A good shampoo will get way down into the hair and remove all of the oils, dirt and build up from other products, without stripping the hair itself. Shampoos you purchase vary in their formulas. The formulas can range from baby fine to thick hair formulas.
Hair has a combination of qualities. For instance, hair can be baby fine and it can also be color processed. You can always use more than one shampoo at a time to take care of these different shampoo on alternate days.
Lather does not clean your hair- it is mainly for show. Have you noticed: the dirtier your hair the less the shampoo with lather and the cleaner your hair the more the shampoo with lather.
When you have a combination of hair needs such as chemically processed hair that goes limp at the roots you need to clean your scalp and give it some lift. But you also want to avoid stripping moisture from the rest of your hair. Before you shampoo apply a conditioner along the length of your wet hair to the ends. Then place the shampoo at the root area allowing only the shampoo run off during the rinse, to wash over the rest of your hair. This should help get the bounce back into your limp, chemically processed hair.

Some of my clients ask me how come there hair is so frizzy. I ask them what styling products they use and how they are towel drying their hair? They usually take the towel after showering and wrap the towel around their head. Then they take the towel and rub, rub, rub until the hair is almost dry. Their hair is dry but however they damage their hair after so much rubbing. To correctly towel dry the hair is gently sqeeze the water out of the hair section by section. Move your head one side to the other until your hair is damp, not wet. Rubbing your hair with your towel is definately roughing up your hairs cuticle. The cuticle is the outside portion of the hairs shaft. By rubbing your hair with the towel is just creating more frizz. when you are dealing with curly hair, it’s better to let your hair dry naturally rather than using a diffuser or blowdryer. If you do decide to use a blowdryer you tend to get flyaways, and frizz. Find away to style your hair curly and let it dry naturally.

It is vital when you are using brushes and combs to make sure they are cleaned regularly. One of the best ways to get rid of the dirt and residue is to: dissolve a tablespoon of washing soda in a basin of water, add a little antiseptic and then tap the brush or comb briskly in it. Afterwards, rinse with clean water.

Great to use to protect your color and comb out the tangles. Great to get moisture back into your hair.

It is better to remove the tangles with a big toothed comb, starting at the ends. Over-zealous brushing can snap the hair like a rubber band. The best styling results are obtained when using a comb to ease out tangles and brush to style the hair into shape while using the blow dryer.

brazilian keratin treatment

Brazilian Keratin Treatment

I attended the Chicago Midwest Hair Show two weeks ago. One of the things that I wanted to achieve is getting certified working with the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. It is a great product if someone wants to take out 100% of the frizz and up to 80% of the curl. The results from the treatment are soft frizz free hair with incredible shine and lasts up to four months. It can be used on any kind of hair even over processed hair. It will make your hair feel like silk. The treatment will not damage your hair at all! The treatment takes about two hours to do on short to mid-length hair. For longer and more texturized hair it will take alittle longer. Let me know if you are interested in the Marcia Brazilian Keratin Treatment.

So what really happens is when you notice a grey hair? You pull it out, right! The action of pulling out the hair may rupture the hair follicle, and the replacement hair that eventually grows in will take longer to regenerate. Then another grey hair will begin to grow next to it. When the hair that was originally pulled out grows back, you have two grey hairs. I hear all the time that people feel like they have to pull out the grey hairs they see. Some people say that they will not do that again. Then others will just keep on pulling the grey hairs out. Oh well!

Straightening Irons can be potentially dangerous to the hair. A thermostatic control can be purchased to ensure that the job is done properly. The heat required to temporarily realign the shape of the hair has to be considerable but does not have to be at the highest setting. Thermal styling aids are a must to insure a protective barrier before one starts straightening the hair. If care is not taken, you may make your hair brittle! Steam-producing irons are less likely to dry out the hair, as these prodvide moisture, Teflon coated irons are best.

When natural ingredients are used, they have to be extracted, bleached, masticated, and mixed with other chemicals to preserve them. If you are buying a low-priced product, the chances are that the fragrance is not natural. The ingredients on labels are printed in descending order of percentages, the highest first and the lowest last-look and you will see where the ‘natural’ ingredients are!

I have a client who flat irons her hair almost everyday. Her sides are so dry her hair is breaking off. I told her to give her hair a break. She doesn’t like her hair not flat ironed. She wants to keep her hair long but her sides are gradually getting shorter. The next thing I told her she could do is put some extensions on her sides. I would just be putting in some on her sides to match her back, so her hair doesn’t end up looking bi-level. This is one way if your sides are fine or thin to make it appear fuller. You are not looking at an expensive amount of money to put a few on your sides.
